Sarah Hat Knitting

You Will Need:

Gauge:

20 stitches x 32 rows = 10 cm (adjust needle size to get gauge)

Instructions:

  1. Cast on 84 sts using a stretchy cast on (eg. long tail). Place marker and join to work in the round.
  2. Purl 15 rounds.
  3. Knit until hat measures about 15 cm from cast on edge. (You may need to adjust this to match the distance from just above your eyebrows to the top of your crown.)

Knitting the Brim of the Hat:

  1. Cast on 84 stitches using a stretchy cast on (eg. long tail). Place marker and join to work in the round.
  2. Purl 15 rounds.
  3. Knit until hat measures about 15 cm from cast on edge. (You may need to adjust this to match the distance from just above your eyebrows to the top of your crown.)

Crown Decreases:

  1. Round 1: [k12, k2tog] around
  2. Round 2: k
  3. Round 3: [k11, k2tog] around
  4. Round 4: k
  5. Round 5: [k10, k2tog] around
  6. Round 6: k
  7. Round 7: [k9, k2tog] around
  8. Round 8: k
  9. Round 9: [k8, k2tog] around
  10. Round 10: k
  11. Round 11: [k7, k2tog] around
  12. Round 12: k
  13. Round 13: [k6, k2tog] around
  14. Round 14: k
  15. Round 15: [k5, k2tog] around
  16. Round 16: k
  17. Round 17: [k4, k2tog] around
  18. Round 18: [k3, k2tog] around
  19. Round 19: [k2, k2tog] around
  20. Round 20: [k1, k2tog] around
  21. Round 21: [k2tog] around

You should have 6 stitches remaining.

Top Cord:

  1. Put the remaining stitches onto one needle. Work i-cord for 10 rounds.
  2. Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches.
  3. Weave in ends and put on head.
